IN BRIEF: The Cougars of UC Clermont struck early and often, to defeat Penn State DuBois 4-0 in an elimination contest of the 2016 Small College World Series.
HOW THEY SCORED: Jake Murray of UC Clermont started off the game in a big way, tripling to right field. Jake Scarlato drove him in immediately with an RBI single. Scarlato would take second and third on wild pitches, before scoring on a fielder's choice. UC Clermont capitalized on more errant pitches in the second inning. Jacob Beinke started the inning with a walk. Kyle Miller, who pinch ran for Beinke would go on to advance to second and third on wild pitches, before eventually stealing home.
UC Clermont added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Catcher, Ben Seeger walked with one out. He advanced to second on a groundout fielder's choice, before scoring on a Beinke RBI double in the gap. Penn State remained scoreless in the contest, leaving a total of six runners on base throughout the contest.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE: Grant Christmas of UC Clermont pitched a complete game, allowing no runs on four hits. Garrett Brown, Clayton Butler, Caleb Bennett, and Alessandro Marotto each had lone base hits for the Lions.
UC Clermont also spread out their production offensively with five players combining for their six hits in the ball game. Jake Scarlato was 2-3 with one run and one RBI. Scarlato, Anthony Bell, and Nick King each had one RBI.

IN BRIEF: The sticks came alive in the second game of day two, as Cleary and Robert Morris University combined for 21 hits and 17 runs. Cleary entered the seventh inning down 9-5. The Cougars scored three in the final inning and had the tying runner on third before T.R Dunne struck the last batter of the game, ending the game at 9-8 and advancing the Eagles to the semi-finals of the elimination bracket in the 2016 Small College World Series.
HOW THEY SCORED: Cleary, after putting up ten runs in last night's routing of the Apprentice School, began the scoring in the top of the first. After being hit by a pitch and stealing second, Nick Hoogerhyde took third base on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder's choice hit by Reid Beffrey.
Robert Morris Peoria struck back with a vengeance in the bottom half of the inning, putting up three runs on four hits. Ethan Westhart led off the inning with a double. McKinley Kruger singled to advance Westart to third, and Dakota Carter hit a sacrifice fly to left to score the runner. T.R. Dunne followed that up with a single, before Ryan Slusher was hit to load the bases. Jake Stephens flied out to center to score Kruger and Cody Dietz slashed a single, scoring Dunne.
Cleary bounced back with four runs in the top of the second inning. Mickey Montpas led off with a single. Courtesy runner Brady Haba would steal second before moving to third on a single by Cameron Ciaciuch. Cleary scored their first run on a passed ball, then scored two more on errors by Robert Morris. The fourth and final run of the inning came off of a Briton Ott double, scoring Hoogerhyde.
Robert Morris doubled their score total in the bottom half of the second inning, taking back three runs from Cleary. With one out, Westart and Kruger both singled. Carter ripped a double in the gap scoring Westart and advancing Kruger to third. With two outs, Slusher singled to drive in Carter and Kruger. Robert Morris put up another run in the bottom of the fourth with a lead-off single by Westart, who scored on a Slusher double.
Westart was the sparkplug for Robert Morris again in the bottom of the sixth, leading off with a single. Kruger and Dunne followed with singles to load the bases. Slusher hit his second double in a row, scoring two and giving Robert Morris a four run lead heading into the final inning.
In the seventh, Ciaciuch led off with a single for Cleary. Luke Bunting reached first on a fielder's choice, before advancing to second on a wild pitch. John Grable, next to the plate, ripped a single moving the runner to third. Grable then stole second, before Cleary pushed their first run across on a groundball error by the shortstop of Robert Morris. T.R. Dunne came into the game and immediately gave up an RBI double deep to center off Ott. Hoogerhyde scored on a fielder's choice groundball to short, which advanced Ott to third base. With two outs and the tying run on third, Dunne struck out Roosa looking on an outside fastball.
For Robert Morris, Ethan Westart could not be stopped today, putting up four hits in four at bats, and scoring four runs at the top of the line-up. McKinley Kruger and Ryan Slusher both added three hits apiece, with Slusher knocking in five of the Eagle's nine runs. Cody Dietz pitched six innings for the Eagles, giving up six hits and only two earned runs.
NEXT UP: Robert Morris Peoria remains alive in the 2016 Small College World Series and will face UC Clermont at 4:30pm EST this afternoon in an elimination contest. Cleary ends their run at a National Championship, with two wins in the Small College World Series.

IN BRIEF: Nicholas Burch was one inning away from pitching the third straight complete game for the Fighting Saints this series. Burch allowed no runs on four hits, leading St. Joe's to a 3-0 win over Rochester College, and propelling them into the National Championship game on Thursday.
HOW THEY SCORED: Junior Shortstop Nick Rodriguez of College of St. Joe's, after leading off the game with a single, advanced to second on a fielder's choice. Connor Martin walked and both runners moved to scoring position on a wild pitch. Tyler Kunzmann hit a deep fly ball to center to sacrifice Rodriguez home.
The Saints added two more runs in the third. After a Jared Morello walk, Martin singled placing runners on first and second. Again, Saints runner advanced to scoring position on a wild pitch. Tyler Kunzmann added his second and third RBIs of the game on a base hit.
Burch pitched six innings of scoreless baseball for the Fighting Saints. He started the seventh, but after walking the first batter, was relieved by USCAA Player of the Year Alan Madsen, who allowed no hits while striking out two. Tyler Kuzzmann led St. Joe's offensively, going two for two at the plate with all three RBIs.
NEXT UP: With the win, the College of St. Joseph's Vermont Fighting Saints move on to the National Championship game to take place at 2:30pm EST on Thursday. They will play the winner of Rochester College vs. winner of UC Clermont/Robert Morris Peoria which will take place at 11:00am EST on Thursday morning.

IN BRIEF: Robert Morris had a chance to tie the game with bases loaded in the top of the seventh, but were cut short of a chance at the title as UC Clermont held on 11-8.
HOW THEY SCORED: UC Clermont jumped out early on Robert Morris Peoria, putting up a four spot in the bottom of the first. Jake Murray lead of the game with a walk and Jake Scarlato singled to put runners on first and second. Ben Seeger reached base on an error by the shortstop, scoring Murray. Freshman Spencer Henn followed it up, blasting a three-run homer in the left centerfield stands to put the Cougars up 4-0.
Robert Morris came back to tie the game in the top of the second, scoring four runs on three hits. Ryan Slusher and Jake Stephens led off the inning with singles. Cody Dietz followed up with another single to score Slusher. Following a Chad Lopez walk, Stephens and Dietz scored on a dropped third strike and errant throw into the RMU dugout on a play at the plate. Lopez, now at third, scored on another wild pitch.
UC Clermont took their second lead of the game in the bottom of the second scoring an unearned run by Jesse, who singled to start the inning and advanced to second on a Murray single and moved to third on and error by the pitcher.
Jesse, in the bottom of the third flied out to centerfield scoring Hann from third and advanced Beinke. Courtesy runner King stole second and on the catchers throw to second Beinke was able to steal home and make it 7-4.The Cougars added to their led in the fourth after Scarleto was walked to begin the inning and Seeger was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch advanced both runners to scoring position, Henn stepped up and singled to bring two runners home. After Beinke was hit by a pitch, Nick King would double, scoring Henn and advancing the UC Clermont lead to 10-4.
Peoria got a run back in the top of the fifth as Atchley scored on a Slusher sacrifice fly to leftfield. UC Clermont came right back in the bottom of the inning, scoring Scarlato, who walked, on a Henn single. No runs were notched again until the seventh, as Robert Morris (down 11-5) made a run at it. Kruger led off the inning with a double and Westart reached on an error by the third baseman. Slusher again singled, bringing home Kruger. Westart scored on the next play as Stephens hit into a fielder’s choice. Dietz would walk to load the bases, down by four. Ziegler would walk to bring home a run, making the score 11-8 and bringing the go ahead run to the plate. However, Nick King returned to the mound and grounded out Atchley to end the ballgame.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE: Ryan Slusher had another impressive game for Robert Morris, putting up 2 hits in three at bats, and adding two RBIs to his tournament total. Cody Dietz, McKinley Kruger, and T.R. Dunne each had a pair of hits in the ballgame.
For UC Clermont, Spencer Henn was 3 for 3 including a monster three run home run to left-center. Jacob Bienke was the only other Cougar with multiple hits, going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Five other Cougars had one hit in the contest.
