IN BRIEF: Nicholas Burch was one inning away from pitching the third straight complete game for the Fighting Saints this series.  Burch allowed no runs on four hits, leading St. Joe's to a 3-0 win over Rochester College, and propelling them into the National Championship game on Thursday. 

HOW THEY SCORED: Junior Shortstop Nick Rodriguez of College of St. Joe's, after leading off the game with a single, advanced to second on a fielder's choice.  Connor Martin walked and both runners moved to scoring position on a wild pitch.  Tyler Kunzmann hit a deep fly ball to center to sacrifice Rodriguez home.

The Saints added two more runs in the third.  After a Jared Morello walk, Martin singled placing runners on first and second.  Again, Saints runner advanced to scoring position on a wild pitch.  Tyler Kunzmann added his second and third RBIs of the game on a base hit.

 

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE: Rochester College left twelve runners on base this game, which included leaving bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings of play and two runners on in the seventh.  The Warriors had four hits from four different players (Quartuccio, Riggs, Pachoiski, and Cook).

Burch pitched six innings of scoreless baseball for the Fighting Saints.  He started the seventh, but after walking the first batter, was relieved by USCAA Player of the Year Alan Madsen, who allowed no hits while striking out two.  Tyler Kuzzmann led St. Joe's offensively, going two for two at the plate with all three RBIs.

NEXT UP: With the win, the College of St. Joseph's Vermont Fighting Saints move on to the National Championship game to take place at 2:30pm EST on Thursday.  They will play the winner of Rochester College vs. winner of UC Clermont/Robert Morris Peoria which will take place at 11:00am EST on Thursday morning.
