And Then There Were Three

And Then There Were Three

Butler, PA – The final day of the Small College World Series is here, and the field is set.  With 11 of the 16 games thus far decided by three runs or less, it is without a doubt one of the most exciting USCAA National Championships in recent memory.

Making their way through the winner’s bracket round and ensuring at least two chances at a National Championship is UC Clermont who won decisively over The Apprentice School 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Pullman Park.  This is UC Clermont’s first time back to the SCWS since 2010.

The Apprentice School will play a seven inning game at 11:00am versus Penn State Greater Allegheny.  The #5 seed and host institution played their way back into day four after losing their first round matchup to (4) Selma University.  Penn State Greater Allegheny came back to beat St. Joseph’s Brooklyn, Briarcliffe College and Lindenwood Belleville, before getting revenge against Selma in a definitive 10-4 win in the nightcap on Wednesday.

The loser of the 11:00am game is the 2013 Small College World Series third place finisher, while the winner moves on to face UC Clermont in the nine inning National Championship games.  The winner of Apprentice and Greater Allegheny will have an uphill battle, but one that several have climbed in recent history.  The 2011 Champion was Briarcliffe College who won three games on day four for a title and Spalding won in 2012 by beating the Apprentice School twice after a win over Rochester.
