Freshman Zach Shannon Secures 2015 USCAA Small College World Series Home Run Derby Title

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia – Freshman, Zach Shannon, of the University of Cincinnati-Clermont defeated Lee Rossi of The Apprentice School in the final round to claim the 2015 Small College World Series Home Run Derby. Shannon knocked six over the fence in the first round. The Cougar outfielder finished with 18 homers over the three rounds.

Runner up Lee Rossi connected on only three bombs his first round but was still able to secure a second round spot. In his second appearance Rossi from tournament host The Apprentice School, knocked out four homers to lock up the final spot in the third and final round of the derby. 

However, the determined Shannon would not be denied the USCAA Home Run Derby crown, launching a round best seven home runs out of the park.

Rossi made a valiant effort for the title posting six home runs with still three outs remaining.

“I thought he had it”, Shannon said of Rossi. The 5’9 Senior from The Apprentice School was unable to knock one last ball over the fence to force overtime.
