#5 Penn State Greater Allegheny 9, #1 Apprentice School 3

BUTLER, PA .—Zach Krivda scattered 10 hits and struck out 10 in going the distance as Penn State Greater Allegheny defeated The Apprentice School 9-3 for third place in the 2013 USCAA Small College World Series on Thursday morning.

The Nittany Lions scored in every inning but the seventh as they scored an unearned run in the first.  In the second Adam Wehr singled in Jose Bonilla for a 2-0 lead. Penn State Greater Allegheny scored three in the third on consecutive doubles from Oliver Girma and Sam Weightman along with a single from Clay Groff to push the lead to 5-0.

The Builders cracked the scoreboard in the third as Devorn Lake hit a sacrifice fly to left to score pinch-runner Lee Rossi.

Penn State Greater Allegheny pushed two more across in the fourth on singles by Jason Bonilla and Jason Paris to lead 7-1.  Apprentice School answered with one in the fourth as Tim Moore singled in Brock Harris who started the inning with a single.

The scoring continued for Penn State Greater Allegheny in the fifth as Wehr started the inning with a solo home run to left field.  In the sixth, they scored with two outs as Paris singled and Clay Groff doubled to score him.  Apprentice School added a run in the sixth as Trevin Wilson reached on a fielders choice to score Harris.

Krivda struck out 10 in earning his fifth win of the year.  Alente Johnson was 3-for-5 to pace a 16-hit attack for Penn State Greater Allegheny.  Moore was 3-for-3 to lead the Apprentice School who finished with a school record 34 wins.
