IN BRIEF: Top seeded Illinois Institute of Technology Scarlet Hawks defeated #9 St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn Bears in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 8th inning, 5-4. Scarlet Hawks right fielder, William Cronin, reached base on a throwing error by Bears third basemen, Brian Luebcke, and scored Ryan Fitzpatrick for the winning run.

HOW THEY SCORED:

  • Illinois Institute of Technology started the scoring off in the top of the 1st inning as second basemen, Michael Malfeo, flied out to right field for a sacrifice in which Austin Boos scored from third base.  Two batters later, infielder Alex Babusci tripled to right center to bring James Tarala to home plate from first base 
  • In the top half of the 4th inning, the Bears took a 4-2 lead over the first seeded Scarlet Hawks.  Third basemen, Brian Luebcke, drove in the Bears first two runs with a double to left center to even the score at two apiece. Luebcke scored two batters later on a throwing error by Scarlet Hawks center fielder, Ryan Fitzpatrick.  The very next batter Bears first basemen, Nicholas LoPrinzi, grounded out to shortstop for the second out while also driving in Francis Rapp to take a 4-2 advantage
  • The Scarlet Hawks got a run back in the bottom of the 4th to make it a 4-3 ballgame as Austin Boos recorded one of his two RBIs with a sacrifice fly out to right field to drive in first basemen, Shane Pung
  • In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Scarlet Hawks tied the ballgame at four apiece. Austin Boos drove in his second RBI of the game with a triple to right field to score Matthew Bishop from second base
  • In extra innings, Scarlet Hawks Ryan Fitzpatrick scored from second base on a throwing error committed by Bears third basemen Brian Luebcke
