IN BRIEF: The Fighting Saints of the College of St. Joseph's-Vermont defeated the Cougars of the University of Cincinnati-Clermont by a score of 4-1 to advance in the 2015 USCAA Small College World Series. College of St. Joseph's-Vermont relied on great starting pitching and team defense to keep the Cougars from gaining any momentum on their way to victory.

HOW THEY SCORED:

  • In the very first inning, the Fighting Saints struck first as they had two runners cross the plate.  Right fielder, Connor Martin, doubled down the left field line to bring Nestor Velazquez and Nick Rodriguez to home plate for the games first runs and take a 2-0 lead. 
  • The Fighting Saints added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth when Jayson Osborne singled to right field that allowed Nick Rodriguez cross home plate to give them a 3-0 lead.  Later in the inning, Connor Martin struck again as he flied out for a sacrifice in order to bring Daniel Pena to score to make it 4-0.
  • The Cougars got on the board in the top of the 6th inning to make it 4-1.  Catcher, Ben Seeger, scored off of a double to left center field by Cameron Harris. However, the Cougars were unable to record another run on their way to a 4-1 defeat.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Connor Martin of College of St. Joseph's-Vermont recorded a game-high 3 RBIs on 1 hit
  • Pitcher, Ryan Cummings, earned the complete game win while striking out 4 batters
  • For the Cougars of the University of Cincinnati-Clermont, Cameron Harris and Ryan Jesse, each led the team with 2 hits

#6 College of St. Joseph's-Vermont moves on to face The Apprentice School on Friday, May 15th at 11:00am at War Memorial Stadium for an elimination game.  The University of Cincinnati-Clermont ends their season with a record of 20-16.
