FINAL SCORE: #5 Cleary University 7, #9 Central Penn College 3

IN BRIEF:  Central Penn rallied in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to overcome Cleary University's seven runs.  Cleary wins 7-3 and moves on to play Bluefield State in the elimination bracket quarterfinals. 

HOW THEY SCORED: In the bottom of the 1st inning, John Grable and Reid Beffrey each singled, putting runners on first and second. Grable stole third and a Jordan Hadley single brought Grable home to open the scoring at 1-0 in favor of Cleary.

Nick Hoogerhyde singled to open the third inning for the Cougars, then stole second to get into scoring postion. Beffrey stepped up with a single to advance Hoogerhyde to third. He was brought in on a sac fly to right field by Hadley. Beffrey stole second and John Malbone was walked to put two men on base. Mickey Montpas singled then advanced all the way to third on an error, bringing both runners home to make it 4-0. 

UC Clermont added a run in the bottom of the fourth behind a Grable sacrifice fly.  Hoogerhyde added two more for the Cougars as he went deep in the bottom of the 6th with Bunting on base, extending the lead to 7-0. 

Central Penn College got on the board in the top of the 7th after Jerry Biller III started the inning with a single. The next batter, Cook, doubled to advance Biller to third who was able to score on an error. Woodward was walked before Biller scored and Woodward advanced to second on another error. The final run of the game was Woodward coming around home after stealing third advancing on the third error of the inning by the Cougars. 

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE: Payton Tyndall started on the mound for the Cougars and pitched five perfect innings. He allowed his first hit in the sixth after already striking out nine batters and issuing no walks.

For Cleary, Hoogerhyde, Grable, Beffery, Nowicki, and Malbone each had a stolen base. Hoogerhyde had two RBIs thanks to his two run shot in the bottom of the 6th and was 3-4 in his plate appearances. 

Todd Cook had the lone extra base hit for Central Penn. Cook also went 3.1 innings allowing four earned runs, and striking out six batters in the process. 

NEXT UP: Cleary University advances in the elimination bracket to play the #8 seeded Bluefield State College this evening at 6:30pm.  Central Penn exits the tournament after an outstanding season and their first Small College World Series appearance.
